CLIMATE AND DRESS

The weather in Baveno and lake Maggiore in June is usually sunny with a day temperature of 23° -28° C. Dress will be informal throughout the Conference.

Local time will be Central European Time (GMT +1) with summertime daylight saving (+1).

POWER

Power supply in Italy is 220 volts. Round European style two-pin plugs are used. Appliances designed to operate on 110-120V need a voltage converter and a plug adapter for two-prong, round-prong plugs with side grounding contacts.

ABOUT BAVENO

Famous thermal resort, this little town has old origins. The historical centre is composed of buildings, dating back to 10th century, and it is one of the most important holiday resort appreciated by international tourists. The settlement of mankind, on the south shore of the lake, was due to the possibility of quarrying pink and red granite, from the surrounding mountains, above all Camoscio. The parish church, with its romanesque bell tower, was built in 11th century with Baveno's granite On the facade, there are Roman tombstones. Nearby there is the eight-sided baptistery of paleochristian origin and remade in the period of Renaissance. In Baveno there are also many aristocratic villas dating back to 19th century. Entering the town, you can note "Villa Branca" built in 1884 in Tudor style, and "Villa Fedora" , where Umberto Giordano composed the homonymous opera. One of the resort of Baveno, is Feriolo, a small village which is an important road connection: from here the streets lead towards Lago d'Orta and Val d'Ossola, hugging the lake, and Verbania, Canton Ticino.

BOAT TOURS
A simple mean of transport for the lake's inhabitants, to go to work or to the school.

The governmental company has a fleet of 30 vessels, including steamboats, motor boats and ferries.
This is the most enjoyable way of travelling from one town to another on Maggiore Lake, avoiding the traffic jams on the crowded roads, especially at weekends.
