The Isola dei Pescatori (lit. Fishermen’s Island) is an island of Lago Maggiore in northern Italy. As the most northerly of the three principal Borromean Islands it is also known as Isola Superiore and, with a population of about 50, it is the only one to be inhabited all year round. Unlike Isola Bella and Isola Madre, the island no longer belongs to the Borromeo.
The island is about 350 meters long by 100 meters wide. A narrow street running along its spine is joined by cobbled alleys to the promenade which encircles the island. The promenade is frequently flooded and the houses built against it are constructed to allow for this.
While the traditional occupation of fishing still exists - local restaurants providing a ready market for the fish - tourism has become central to the economic life of the island as its picturesque charms have made Isola dei Pescatori a popular destination: particularly for day-trippers but also for more extended visits. In addition to the hotel(s), restaurants and gift-shops there are boutiques selling craft products.
English is the official language of the conference.
Toxins 2008 will take no liability that may arise from the delegates’ and presenter’s participation in the conference or its activities. Lost and found may be picked up at the registration desks.
Poster boards (100 cm width x 200 cm height) will be located on Planetario III Room.
Posters can have any shape and must be hung on the boards to stay on display from June 12 through June 14.
Registration to the conference includes the delegate’s name badge, certificate of attendance, CME credits for Italian delegates, coffee breaks and light buffet lunches.
The slide preview centre is located in Galassia Room. It is suggested that presentations are handed well in time directly to the computer assistant in the appropriate room. The loaded data remain property of the speakers and will be deleted at the end of each day.
Most conference sessions are audio or video taped, in order to include relevant discussion sessions in the proceedings. Should you have enquiries about audio recording, please contact the secretariat before the start of the conference.
